Mike Gent - Headphone Music
Mike's brand new solo record (his 5th) "Headphone Music" was written and recorded over a period of 3 years (2014-2017). It started out as a batch of songs cowritten with Graham Parker (two of these songs, Guitar Man (Vol. 3) & Eastern Banks) are included on the album). Mike then purchased and borrowed some gear, and put together a small studio in his home and continued writing/experimenting. Over 30 new songs were recorded and at one point, 20 songs were going to be released. Over time it was decided to put 10 of these new songs on the record. Mike played everything except keys on Guitar Man (Vol. 3) which were performed by Ted Collins in January of 2017. This is the first time since "The Intake" (2003) where Mike does everything by himself (engineering, playing, mixing, etc..). While making the album, Mike also recorded two Figgs records (Other Planes Of Here & On The Slide) and The Needy Sons debut (Vis-A-Vis). Maybe this is why it took so long to make and finish!!
